Facilitator of Voice for First Nations Peoples

 Keynote: 9 November 2019

Susan’s ancestry is Woolwonga and Gurindji from the Northern Territory. She now lives on Gaimariagal land, also known as the Northern Sydney region. Susan has extensive experience working with First Nations communities across Australia, with specific expertise in community healing, capacity building and
empowerment.

Susan’s skill extends to working with mainstream organisations and communities in the provision of cultural competency and immersion sessions, working with Elders to share our ancient knowledge, as well as social planning, policy development and advocacy for Australia’s First Peoples.

With 20 years experience behind her in the broadcasting sector, Susan was the former Executive Producer for the ABC’s Indigenous Programs Unit and later Head of Production with National Indigenous Television, NITV a division of SBS.

She is part of the group known as the Stolen Generations with lived experience of the trauma associated with removal, loss, dispossession and disconnection, exploring and finding pathways to healing, for the many people who have shared a similar path. The former Australia’s First Peoples Wellness Consultant, working in the human services sector, today Susan’s focus is on social and emotional wellbeing and how the oldest surviving living culture on the planet has knowledge worth sharing for all Australians. Our knowledge is our gift to humanity. We need to grow our young ones up strong so they know how to be better custodians of Mother Earth.

Moylan-Coombs is the Director of the Gaimaragal Group based in the Northern Sydney region.
